The drawings are made with fine contour lines and detailed hatching. The torture scenes require a lot of detail to bring out the horror of the events. Dark dungeons and prison cell require a lot of high contrast tones to bring out terror. Prisoners in a drawing can be seen clearly because the background cell is dark.
