Barechested men drawings have the advantage of being both naked and clothed. In harnessing this image I use contour lines to draw out the main figure in the scene. After I have finished the outline I then make use of hatched lines for better details. Hatched lines give the three dimensional look to the rendering with shades and shadows. Drawings of barechested men required attention to detail because of the pecs and penis. This areas of the body and salient and hard to draw. The penis is difficult because it is small because it is small in relation to the entire body. The pecs are difficult to render because the do not have a linear form. Pec for barechested men drawings have to be made with shading.
Shade and shadows are done with hatch lines because they are small and aligned. Aligned lines are very strong because they form a block when seen far back from the drawing. Hatch lines should start along the edge of a contour line and work towards the light. In this way I am working with both the contour lines and the hatch lines. This will make the drawing look more three dimensional. Shading and shadowing are the key to making a figure look life like.
